The Citadel of Cascais is more than just a scenic monument, it is now a space for cultural creation with the new Cidadela Art District (CAD), an innovative art project designed by Group Pestana. With this project, the Pestana Cidadela Cascais – Pousada Historic Hotel & Art District becomes the first hotel in Europe to have an Art District.
The idea behind the project is to (re)use the many unique spaces of the Citadel – from the Hotel to the fortress walls – for exhibits and “in loco” creation by the residing and guest artists in constant dynamics between guests and Art.
The Cidadela Art District comprises Exhibition Rooms as some Galleries/Galerias, a “Project Room”, and several Studios/Ateliês where artists can be met during their creative process, by prior appointment.
Besides the two major annual collective exhibitions, Cidadela’s Art District Ongoing Agenda includes a program for International guest artist residencies, art shows and site specific interventions and exhibitions, transforming the Cidadela into the new agent provocateur in country. Another major pull are the Author Rooms created by residing and guest artists, as the various site specific interventions happening along each Collective Exhibition as a true ‘Take Over’ movement all over the hotel. These Collective Exhibitions are curated by invited Curators, Art Directors or Galleries.
An Art Concierge is also available to provide for Informations about all the Artists, Works, Agenda and News regarding the Cidadela Art District.
